"WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT THE BIBLE"
Contrary to questions posed in a recent Time
magazine article entitled, "The Bible: Fact or Fiction? ", the Bible is
fact (John 17:17). It is the very breath of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17). It
is a
"lamp to our feet and a
light
to our path..." (Psalm 119:105). It is a sharp
sword that cuts deep into the heart (Hebrews 4:12). It is THE truth of
God that sets man free from unbelief and doubt (John 8:32).
God used human beings to bring His
Word to the world (2 Peter 1:16-21). Working through the twofold process
of inspiration and translation God has seen fit to providentially make
His Word accessible to all mankind (Psalm 33:11; 100:5). The human side
of this process may not have always proven flawless, but the Divine hand
in it has never erred (Isaiah 55:11).
This article has always intended to point the
reader to the Word of God. An honest attempt is made to validate every
statement with scripture (1 Peter 4:11). Our aim is to remind a world
that has forgotten how to slow down long enough to read that careful
examination of the Word of God is absolutely essential (2 Timothy 2:15).
We must not assume that those who preach and teach are infallible in
their knowledge, their understanding, and perhaps even in their intent
(Matthew 15:9). Let's remember, at one time Paul (while Saul of Tarsus)
sincerely believed that he was right in persecuting christians (Acts
8:3; 23:1). He wasn't.
The Bible says, "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the
spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone
out into the world,
"
(1 John 4:1). Just as
there was a need to be thorough in the investigation of what was being
taught in John's day, so there is today. Pilate wondered aloud as he
spoke to the Lord, "What is truth?" (John 18:38). Little did he realize
and comprehend that THE truth about God, mankind, and the entire
universe was standing right in front of him (John 18:37). "What The
Bible Says" is not just the title of a newspaper article. It should be
the quest of every person who is genuinely seeking the Lord (Acts
17:11).
