"WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT OBEDIENCE"

"Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said: "We ought to obey God rather than men, " (Acts 5:29). In response to the Sanhedrin's command not to teach and preach Jesus the apostles teach an enduring lesson regarding obedience. The Bible says that we must obey God in order to be saved (Matthew 7:21-23; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9). The Bible says that we will obey the Lord if we love Him (John 14:15,21). The Bible says that Jesus himself had to learn obedience as a human being (Hebrews 5:7-8).

The Bible says that there is no substitute we can offer God in place of obedience (John 5:39-40). Even the wind and sea, the atmospheric elements of the universe, knew nothing else but to obey the Lord when He command them in the middle of a raging storm to be still (Luke 8:23-25.). When Noah was commanded by God in very specific terms how he was to construct and populate the ark the Bible says Noah, "... did according to all that God had commanded him... " (Genesis 6:22; 7:5; Hebrews 11:7).

In 1 Samuel 15:22 the Bible says, "Then Samuel said: "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. " No external rite of "religion" has as much impact with God Himself as does our obedience. The Bible says that those who obey the commandments of Christ will have access to heaven and to the tree of life (Revelation 22:14). As the writer of Hebrews says, "And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, " (Hebrews 5:9). We purify our souls by obeying the truth (1 Peter 1:22).

The Bible says that disobedience brings the wrath of God (Colossians 3: 5-6). The judgment of God will be severe on those who have refused to obey the gospel (1 Peter 4:17; Leviticus 10:1-2; Genesis 19:26). The Bible says that the only way to correct disobedience is to reverse it through repentance and to obey what God has told us to do (Matthew 21:28-32). If we obey the Bible says we become the family of God (Matthew 12:50).
