"WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT ANGELS"
The Bible
says that angels are created beings (Psalm 148:2). According to Daniel
7:10, Hebrews 12:22. and Luke 2:13 there are more angels than can be
counted by human estimates. Jesus once said the He could have called 12
legions (legion = 6,000) of angels to rescue Him from the crucifixion
mob if He had desired to (Matthew 26:53).
The Bible
says that angels are "ministering spirits," (Hebrews 1:14). In Psalm
103:20 the Bible says,
"Bless the LORD, you His
angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of His
word "
The Bible says that certain angels have a function of service where
"little ones" are concerned (Matthew 18:10). It was Gabriel who
announced both the birth of John and the birth of Jesus to their parents
(Luke 1:19-35).
The Bible says that angels have opened prison doors, taken certain ones
out of prison, killed those in opposition to God, and directed certain
servants of God as to a particular task God wanted them to do (Acts
5:19; 8:26,12:5-23-, 2 Kings 19:33). In Revelation 22:8-9 the
Bible says, "Now I,
John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down
to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things "
{9}
"Then he said to me, "See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow
servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the
words of this book. Worship God "
The Bible says that angels do not
marry or carry on conjugal activity as humans do though they can appear
in bodily form as humans (Matthew 22:30; Mark 16:5; Genesis 18-19).
Angels can also appear in a more dramatic form. The Bible says that an
angel appeared at the tomb of Jesus whose, "countenance was like
lightning, as his clothing as white as snow... " (Matthew 28:1-3).
The Bible says that angels shall
accompany Christ when He comes to earth a second time (Matthew 25:31; 2
Thessalonians 1:7; 1 Thessalonians 4:16). Conversely, the angels who
have rebelled against God will be punished just as any other person will
be (Jude 9; 2 Peter 2:4-11).
